TOP MLB DFS PLAYS for 8/3

Pitcher- Jesse Chavez

Chavez is not the most talented pitcher on the board tonight, but circumstances may make him the best play.  The Pirates/ Cubs game looks like the weather may destroy Liriano’s or Lester’s potential big nights.   Kluber has big K potential, but I don’t like going against Trout, Pujols, and Calhoun in this situation, one bad inning could ruin your shot at the money, and I’m just not loving the matchup.  Ross hasn’t been outstanding, I don’t like the park, and Braun and Lind could beat him up a bit.  I feel good about Chavez.  Baltimore strikes out a lot, and is not a good away team, and Chavez can get the strikeouts, and tends to be better at home.  I like him to get the win tonight, pitch 7 or 8 innings, get 7 or 8 strikeouts, and hold The O’s to 1 run.  I ‘ll take those numbers for a mid-priced guy any day of the week.

Catcher- Hank Conger

If you told me two months ago that I would recommend Conger as a good daily play, I would’ve slapped you in your face.  Things change in DFS, and you have to adapt, and ride the wave.  Last three games he has 6 hits, 2 Hr’s, and 6 RBI’s.  He faces off against Colby Lewis in a great hitters park in Arlington.  Lewis has given up 8 Home Runs in the past 6 games, and hopefully, Conger gets another one tonight.  Traditionally, Lewis does have GREAT numbers versus Houston, but this squad is so different from the ones he faced in the past, I’m going to dismiss his stellar record.

1st Base – Buster Posey

I love Posey tonight.  HE will be in Atlanta, to face off against Mike Foltynewicz.   Folty is a pretty bad pitcher, and Posey OWNS Righties this year.  Buster has a .338 with 12 Hr’s against right handed pitching, and this is setting up for a big night for him.

2nd Base/ 3rd Base/ SS – Anthony Rendon and Yunel Escobar

I like BOTH guys tonight, and pairing them both in my lineups.  Both are now starting to heat up and both are right handed hitters who hit Right handed pitching well.  The Nats get to see Rookie Zac Godley tonight who has a 2.25 era in two starts so far.  Small sample size, he isn’t that impressive, and in 25 plate appearances, righties have hit 2 home runs and near .300 against him.  Godley might get a serious beat down tonight, and a Nationals stack might be a nice sneaky play tonight.

OF- Adam Eaton

Eaton is on a fantasy TARE recently.  In case you missed it, the past 10 games Eaton has 20 hits, 14 runs,  3 doubles, 2 Hrs, and 5 Sb’s and zero CS.  That might be the past 10 game stretch by any baseball player this season.  Regardless, you have to put him in your lineup.  He will most likely leadoff against Nate Karns, and Tampa tonight in Chicago.  Karns is a decent SP, but isn’t great against lefties and gives up A LOT of stolen bases.  It’s not a huge over/under game tonight, but Vegas says The White Sox score 4, I’ll pencil in Eaton for at least two of them

THE STACK OF THE NIGHT............................LA DODGERS

If you're going to go all in on any one team tonight I think your best shot at success will be to put as many Dodgers in your lineup as you can, especially the lefties.  Tom Koehler and The Marlins will Travel to LA tonight and face off against Gonzo and Friends.  Koehler has been very pedestrian this year, especially away from his home park.  Koehler has faced Lefties 71 times this season and has given up 7 HRs in that span and a .297 avg.  Those are not good numbers when you have to face Adrian Gonzalez, Joc Pederson, and Yasmani Grandal.  All of the above can crush a dinger at any given moment.  Against Righties this year:  Gonzo .385 with 8 HR, Yasmani .388 with 4 HR, and Joc is .273 with 9 HR.  Now, add on top of that, the fact that Right hander Justin Turner is hitting .356 with 5 Hr's, and Alex Guerrero is hitting .323 with 4 HR's against Righties, and now you have 5 hitters in the same lineup that can go mental at any given moment.  Those are the five I would go with, but make sure when the official lineup comes out that everyone is playing tonight, Don Mattingly likes to switch it up from time to time.

MLB VALUE PLAYS                    5/8/15

IKE DAVIS - $3,900  1st Base Oakland

The Oakland A’s play at home tonight versus Tajuan Walker.  When Walker is BAD, he might be the most hittable pitcher currently on an MLB roster.  Pretty much every A’s player is going to be played in DFS with the hopes that Walker gets shelled right out of the gate.  Davis is nicely priced tonight compared to all the other 1st baseman on the slate.  Davis hit a HR last night and might be heating up.  It’s a nice lefty-righty matchup, and Davis has serious HR power and has a good shot at clearing the bases more than once tonight,  I’m not in love with any other 1st baseman tonight, and I will save some money at the position to try to squeeze Matt Harvey of David Price in my lineup

David DeJesus -$3,800 OF Tampa

DeJesus is on a nice 4 game hitting streak, collecting 7 hits and only striking out once.    The rays face off against Gallardo and The Rangers tonight.  Gallardo is coming off three somewhat shaky starts in a row, and I assume that he will give up some hits and runs tonight.  Dejesus should bat somewhere in the top half of the order , and get 4 or 5 at bats.  DeJesus is 4 for 14 against Gallardo in his career with 2 doubles and a Home run.

Jace Peterson - $2,300 2B Braves

Peterson is quietly TEARING IT UP the past 10 games.  He has hits in 9 out of 10 of those games and 14 hits all together.  He is seeing the ball well and The Braves, as a team, are starting to score runs and produce.  Gio Gonzalez takes the mound tonight against Atlanta.  Gio is a Lefthanded pitcher who is actually worse against left handed hitters.  Jace Peterson is a left handed hitter who is actually better against left handed pitchers, doesn’t happen very often, but at $2,300, and 2nd base being weak tonight, I will take the value in Peterson and hope the stats don’t lie.

Tonight’s TOP NBA Value Plays                                    4/27/2015

Nick Calathes – PG – Memphis

Conley is DONE for the season/ playoffs.  Beno Udrih is listed as next in line to start tonight against Portland.  But the starter is NOT always the way to go in these situations (See JJ Barea’s last game).  The minutes might be split right down the middle OR Udrih could get sidelined because of his bum ankle.  Either way, I think Calathes will outperform him tonight, and I think more people will be on Udrih than Calathes, making him a nice play that could put you above the rest.   On Saturday night, Nick had 13 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 block, and 2 three-pointers in 26 minutes, not bad for bare minimum salary tonight.  It’s also interesting to note, the final game of the regular season when he saw 31 minutes of action he did :8 Pts, 6 Assists, 6 Rebounds, and 4 steals against The Pacers.  Put him in, and cross your fingers that Udrih hits the floor (That sounds terrible, but business is business, sorry)

Courtney Lee – SG – Memphis

Courtney Lee is the only option if you’re not playing Butler and Middleton tonight.  He is half price of these guys (3 times less than Jimmy B).  Lee could almost replicate Middleton tonight, probably not, but might come close.  Butler will easily out perform him, but if Lee puts up a 25, I’m saying Butler isn’t putting up a 75.  Lee put up a 30 last game, and with Conley done, Lee will be forced to shoot the rock tonight.  Because of our AMAZING multiple multiple Flex positions, you can put both Lee and Butler in your lineups tonight (You’re welcome).  Lee’s line tonight: 33 minutes , 22 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal.

Antetokounmpo– SF –Milwaukee

It’s do or die time, it’s time to roll the dice.  Which Greek Freak shows tonight?  The Fantasy ALL STAR STUD, or the guy who Kidd benches because of foul trouble or bone-head plays??  I like this kid, and when he’s on, and things are going right, he is a STAT MACHINE.  He is the guy that is going to destroy your chances of finishing in the $$ tonight, or vault you ahead of the guys without the testicular fortitude to go for the glory.  NBA DFS is almost over, tonight is one of the final nights to make a play.  I am going to put it on the table and say “Tonight’s winner in all GPP formats will have The Greek Freak included in it”  He has taken me to glory this year, and has also made me throw my cat at my flat screen.  Do it………………….do it.

TOP MLB VALUE PLAYS                                              4/27/15

Alberto Callaspo – 2B- Atlanta           $3,700

The Braves will Face Doug Fister tonight in Atlanta.  I got a chance to watch Fister in his last game, and he doesn’t look right to me, he was off and was not himself.  Traditionally, Fister has OWNED the Braves, but I’m not trusting his stuff right now.  There is a potential he gets banged up tonight and if you want to be on someone who almost nobody else will be, I think Callaspo is a nice very sneaky play.  He is 6/17 (.353), 1 HR, 1 walk, and only one K against Fister lifetime.  If Fister gets rocked, I think Callaspo will be part of the attack, not a safe play, but very contrarian, and at such a low price worth the risk if you are a gambler.

Jimmy Paredes – 3B – Orioles              $3,500

This price is silly.  Jimmy P is questionably the hottest hitter in baseball, the dude is raking.  .429 3Hrs, 9 runs, and 9 RBI’s on the season.  He is hitting .533 at home (DISGUSTING!!) and is also hitting .422 with the 3 HRs Versus Righties.   He gets Noesi tonight who has STUNK against Baltimore in his career.  I don’t know what else to say, he is HALF THE PRICE of the top Outfielders in the game.  Get him on your team now before his price jumps to 5K in the next few days.

Ichiro Suzuki – OF – Marlins                 $2,700

The old man still finds a way to produce.  Suzuki has taken the place of Yelich since he hit the DL last week with a back issue.  Ichiro is on a six game hitting streak with half of those games being 2 hit performances.  Miami always plays well at home, and can produce runs.  Miami will face Dillion “Gee I’m not Good” and could be looking at a whoopin’ tonight.  For $2,700 you really can’t go wrong, If you’re going with Price or Shields tonight, the old man could give you the salary relief you are searching for

TONIGHT’S MLB VALUE PICKS                   4/17/15

Angel Pagan- OF Giants - $5,000

5K isn’t a huge VALUE PLAY, but I have to roll with him tonight as a good safe play.  The Giants will face Josh Collmenter tonight who is a less than mediocre Starting pitcher.  The Giants have a good track record against Collmenter, and so does Angel.  Lifetime pagan is 7 for 12 (.583) with 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs.   Pagan also is on fire, he has 8 hits in his past 3 games (I like pairing him up with Posey tonight for a 1-2 combo that could be monster)

Jon Jay – OF Cardinals - $3,400

St Louis faces Johnny Cueto tonight.  Usually, Im in love with Cueto in daily formats EXCEPT when he faces The Cards.  Cueto has 110 innings under his belt against them and his numbers SUCK: 110 innings, 49 ER, 35 Walks, whip 1.3, and only 62 K’s.  Those are not John Cueto numbers, those are the numbers of a #5 pitcher, not an ace.  Time to look at the Batter vs Pitcher, and one name stands out JON JAY.  Jay is 12/27 with 3 HRS, 7 RBI's, ’nd has strangely enough been HBP 3 times in less than 30 AB’s.  These guys hate eachother.  Jay is cheap, the numbers are there, I gotta run with the value.

Zack Cozart – SS Reds - $3,100

$3,100 is almost minimum salary, if I can get someone that cheap, and have some faith in their upcoming performance, I have to play it.  Cozart gets Wacha tonight and is 6/14 with .643 Slugging against him.  Cozart isn’t going to go 4-4 with 5 RBIs, but if he can go 2-4 with a double(possible), he returned his value at $3,100.  If you are rolling with Kershaw or Scherzer, these are the types of players you need to plug in to make your lineup work

Tonight’s MLB Value Picks              4/10/15

Ben Revere- OF Phillies -$4,500

Ben Revere will go against Gio Gonzalez tonight in Philly.  The name Gio Gonzalez doesn’t scare me like it did 2 or 3 years ago, he is still solid, but will never live up to the potential “Ace” status that we pegged him for not that long ago.  He will get the win tonight because The Phillies are “God Awful”, but they will hit him a little bit.  Revere will leadoff tonight and is ALWAYS a threat to get a couple of stolen bases.  If he can get a hit or two, a SB, and a run, he will be a value at $4,500.   Revere is 8 for 19 lifetime against Gio………………..

Pablo Sandoval – 3B- Red Sox - $5,000

Being from Boston, I have a certain love for all Red Sox players, but especially fat, likeable ones. I wish Kruk wore a Red Sox Jersey at some point in his career.   I really want Sandoval to have a monster season and spend the next 5 years in our uniform.  I usually try not to put hometown guys in Value Plays articles, but I have to tonight.  For this simple fact:  Panda faces Nate Eovaldi tonight at Yankee Stadium, Panda’s batter VS pitcher line looks like this: .727 average, 3 doubles, 1 HR, 9 RBI’s.  I challenge anyone to find a better B VS P line than that.  If he goes 0-4, I can’t be mad at myself, I followed the rules, and went with the ridiculous numbers, in a HR ball park.

Drew Pomeranz – SP A’s - $5,800

Not a great collection of Sp’s tonight.  No big K players out there, so its time to save some $4 and find some value.  Time to go to the stat line:  Pomeranz VS Seattle, 11 innings, 9 K’s, 0.82 ERA, 0.45 WHIP, opponent Ba .128.  Oakland is a pitchers park, those numbers are outstanding, I’m going with it
